Strangers in Time by David Baldacci is a powerful historical novel about loss, survival, and the unexpected family we find in dark times.

In 1944 London, fourteen-year-old Charlie Matters lives each day on the edge. With no family or place to belong, he survives by stealing and avoiding school. He dreams of joining the war effort as soon as he’s old enough, but after surviving the Blitz, he knows life can end in an instant.

Fifteen-year-old Molly Wakefield has just returned from years spent in the countryside as part of the evacuation program. London is no longer the city she remembers. Her home is gone, and so are her parents. Alone and grieving, she doesn’t know what to do next.

That’s when Charlie and Molly meet Ignatius Oliver, the kind but quiet owner of a small bookshop called The Book Keep. Ignatius recently lost his wife and is struggling with a painful secret she left behind. As he opens his shop—and his heart—to the two teens, they begin to find safety and comfort in one another.

Through shared stories, quiet moments, and the smell of old pages, a bond begins to form between the three of them. But as the war rages on, danger creeps closer. Charlie’s activities in the streets have drawn the attention of the wrong people, and Molly is being followed for reasons she doesn’t yet understand.

Together, in the middle of the world’s greatest conflict, they discover that hope, healing, and love can grow even in the darkest times.

David Baldacci, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Calamity of Souls, delivers a heartfelt story of resilience and found family that will stay with readers long after the final page.
